Diamond Back Rattler

Are yet to record anything so you cant listen to 'em here..

But!

You can catch them at Club 77 on thursday ($10)

ALSO

Under Lights are not playing this week but on the other hand have a number of recordings up on their Myspace- all of which are highly recomended.

Saw these guys supporting Cut Off Your Hands a few wednesdays ago, and even though i have a soft spot for the kiwi lads, these boys blew their headliners OUT OF the water!

So yeah, check both bands out you'll love 'em.

Date With A Night

Little Joy is the band in which Fabrizio Moretti from the Strokes has been spending his downtime. Aside from being an all round nice guy ("great name, great hair" Pitchfork will breathlessly tell you), he's making here some great little tunes. "Brand New Start" is a case in point and if it doesnt end up in a Corona ad or something at some point then someone somewhere has missed a trick. Anyway, its great and you should definately invest in the self-titled album which is out now on Rough Trade (loyal to the label he is good ol Fab).

Brand New Start - Little Joy [Buy]

The Veils are, like so much good music, from New Zealand. "Nux Vomica" from their album of the same name is something a bit heavier from the band (coincedentally also on Rough Trade), in where the lads show off the fruits of listening to so much Nick Cave in their earlier youth.

Nux Vomica- The Veils [Buy]

This last track is a little something i put together. It's an old David Bowie interview, some effects, and A Tribe Called Quest instrumental. Super chilla.

Shh

Some good artists in town this weekend for Laneway Festival.

Stereolab, Four Tet and Buraka Som Sistema are my picks but expect too a memorable (depending on your state) set from Greg 'I'm not a DJ' Girl Talk Gillis.

Young guns Papa Vs. Pretty fly the Sydney flag, while Melbourne is well represented by The Temper Trap, export heroes Architecture in Helsinki and the awesome Canyons. Not least of all, Western brooders The Drones chip in for what will be, as always a much awaited return to town.

Word on the street is that the promoters may have oversold earlier legs of the tour, so with tickets just sold out then it is bound to be packed .

Punks Jump Up

Atlanta outift the Black Lips kicked out of India.

You cant make stuff like this up...

Check out the full story (including a run down of the escape to the border and a frantic flight out of the country) HERE on the band's own blog.

And in more local news

What is going on with the Mercy Arms fellas?
Thom's (singer) myspace is deleted and his name conspicuously removed from the band members list on their own site.

From an interview Kirin (guitarist) did with Drum Media a while back:

"We spend a lot of time trying to, you know, keep things civilised, but I think a lot of the positives come when we’re at each other’s throats. That’s when the most exciting music is made"

A rift in the band? Not a chance i say
